Outdoor Recreation Revenues and the Business of Craft Brewing

A recent story from KGW reports on findings from a study released by the Outdoor Industry Association. They found that visitors spend around $12.8 billion on outdoor recreation in Oregon each year. The revenues generated by outdoor activities benefit hotels, restaurants, as well as Oregon-based outdoor gear and clothing manufacturers. The study also estimates that outdoor tourism creates 141,000 jobs in Oregon, with an annual payroll of $4 billion. You can find more details in the full report.

We often see news about new microbreweries from several regions across Oregon. The Oregonian reports that a new program at Portland State University puts craft brewing in business terms. The new online Business Craft Brewing Certificate program focuses on the business skills that will make a brewery more efficient and profitable, in addition to creating a viable business plan. More information is available in The Oregonaian article or on the PSU site.
