Seaside's Economy Hits its Stride

A recent article by the Seaside Signal highlights the positive economic growth experienced by the city of Seaside and Clatsop County. Clatsop County had an unemployment rate of 7.5 percent in August, compared to the statewide average of 9.3 percent.*

The article notes how the County had a good summer hiring season, and and positive year-over-year growth in manufacturing. New projects, like the Broadway Playing field, and record tourist attendance was cited as the engine behind this year's growth.

Shawna Sykes, the area's workforce analyst, is quoted multiple times in the article. She notes that "this year it (employment) is up to 18,050 so that is a 410 increase over last year or 1.6 percent and that is encouraging."
