Another 143,000 temporary Census jobs ended in July, following layoffs seen in May and June. There were also losses in state and local governments. These losses offset the private-sector gains. Overall, the nation lost 131,000 jobs in July.
At 9.5 percent, the national unemployment rate was unchanged in July.
