Hundreds of new jobs coming to Portland and Florence

Recent announcements from a software company and casino bring good news on the employment front: at least 500 jobs will be created in the Portland area over the next couple months, and up to 400 will be available in Florence over the next couple years.

Salesforce, a San Francisco-based software company, revealed that it will open a branch in the Portland area within the next few months. The company plans to hire around 500 workers to run the Oregon office, and recruitment efforts have already begun. These will likely be high-paying positions in information technology, software development, and finance. Although the company has yet to select a location, the Oregonian believes Salesforce will probably set up shop in Washington County. More details are available in the full article.

In other news, the Register-Guard reports that Three Rivers Casino & Hotel plans to expand into a destination resort. The Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians, who own the business, will be acquiring a nearby golf course, doubling lodging occupancy, and building a restaurant, indoor waterpark, and RV park. New retail shops and a boutique hotel will also be added in a later phase of development. The project is expected to reach completion by the end of 2014, and is estimated to create about 200 jobs in each phase of development.
