Around the State for Travelers, Dessert-Lovers, and Home-Improvement Enthusiasts

An interesting group of business types appear in this week's Around the State.


First we have a couple of new hotels for those taking summer getaways:
  • The Gearhart Hotel opened in Gearhart. The Daily Astorian, 6/12/2012
  • Groundbreaking will begin in Hillsboro on two hotels –an Embassy Suites and Hampton Inn and Suites. The seven-story, 165-room Embassy Suites will be next door to the four-story, 106-room Hampton Inn and Suites, which are scheduled to open by September 2013. The Oregonian, 6/12/2012
Next on the list are ice cream and frozen yogurt shops for those with a sweet tooth:
  • Salt & Straw, the "farm-to-cone" ice cream shop, and Saint Honore, a French bakery and cafĂ©, will open new locations at a planned four-story building in southeast Portland. The Oregonian, 6/13/2012
  • Spoonful, a self-serve frozen yogurt shop, opened in Silverton. Appeal Tribune, 6/19/2012
 Last but not least, we have a couple of stores catering to fans of interior design and home improvement:
  • Give & Take, a consignment shop, opened in northeast Portland. It offers used clothing, furniture, jewelry, and housewares. The Oregonian, 6/8/2012
  • Habitat for Humanity opened a Restore in Lincoln City. The News Guard, 6/7/2012
