Green Acres and Furniture Makers in Today's Local News

We found two local news stories today reporting on companies in the Willamette Valley:

The Democrat-Herald covers the slow recovery of nursery crops and grass seed companies. Farmers indicate that sales are growing, although rising fuel costs continue to squeeze profit margins. In 2010, Oregon nursery sales were about one-third less than they were in 2007. Grass seed sales were halved between 2008 and 2010. Click here to read the full article.

Another article from the Statesman Journal reports on the comeback of furniture companies, a topic we blogged about last week. Mastercraft Furniture expanded in a move from Wilsonville to Stayton, expecting to roughly double its workforce from 125 to 300 over the next few years. Company president Marty Olson says that Mastercraft grew 600 percent over the last year by shifting from custom-made furniture to supplying a higher-volume of products to larger retailers. Learn more about Mastercraft in the full article.
