Demand Boosts Two Portland Area Firms

Two Portland firms are expanding capacity to accommodate the new demand.

A news release from the Greenbrier Company recently announced that the company has received orders for 3,700 new railcar platforms valued at approximately $285 million. Greenbrier opened an additional new railcar production line in July and expects to open another in the first quarter of fiscal 2012, in order to accommodate the increased demand in North America.

According to an article from The Oregonian, Evraz Inc. plans to more than double its pipe-making capacity at its North Portland plant. The company said the multimillion-dollar expansion will help meet oil industry demand. "Our Portland facility is ideally suited to help fill this need, both in terms of its geographic location as well as the manufacturing expertise of our local team." The company's news release expressed excitement "to increase our workforce in Portland."
