Science and Natural Resources Business Announcements

This week's edition of Around the State contains several natural resources and science-related announcements.
  • The Jane Project, a forest stewardship project in the Malheur National Forest, received $125,000 from the Governor's Strategic Reserve Fund. It will employ four forestry contractors and about 65 workers to harvest material. Local mills are also expected to retain or re-hire employees due to the increased logging.   • Owners of the Columbia Pacific Bio-Refinery plant at Port Westward near Clatskanie hired a general manager to work on reopening the former ethanol plant. A management team is also being hired. The Clatskanie Chief, 6/16/2011
  • MitoSciences, a Eugene biotech firm, has been acquired by Abcam PLC of Cambridge England. It plans to add two employees. More hiring may happen and Abcam may move some existing employees to Eugene. The Register-Guard, 6/16/2011
  • Roseburg Forest Products composite specialties plant in Dillard will shut down particleboard production for two to three weeks due to damage caused by a fire. Some of the particleboard section's 158 workers will help clean up and repair the damage. The News-Review, 7/11/2011
