Home improvement and financial business announcements

Most news related to financial institutions or homes (construction or sales) that we've heard in recent years has been negative. That's why these encouraging announcements from today's issue of Around the State stood out to us:

By June, 75 of the 140 lost jobs at the Warrenton Lumber Mill will be reinstated when it reopens for business. The Daily Astorian, 2/10/2011

Lowe's will eliminate a middle management position at its Bend and Redmond stores and hire four to eight part-time weekend sales people per store to better serve customers. The Bulletin, 1/27/2011

Home Depot will hire 500 seasonal employees at its 12 Portland-area stores this month and next as it gears up for its busy spring and summer seasons. The Oregonian, 2/15/2011

Heritage Bank will open at Vancouvercenter in Vancouver. The Columbian, 2/11/2011

Banking giant Chase plans to open a Portland center devoted to helping its customers stay in their homes. It will employ seven to 10 workers. Portland Business Journal, 2/4/2011
