March Unemployment Rates by County

Today the Employment Department released March 2010 unemployment rates for all of Oregon's counties.

Rates ranged from 7.2 percent in Gilliam County to 15.5 percent in Crook County. Jefferson County had the largest over-the-year decline in unemployment, with a drop of more than 2.2 percentage points. The unemployment rate in Morrow County rose by 0.8 percentage point over the previous year.

Unemployment rates dropped over the previous year in every Oregon MSA. The lowest metro rate was in the Corvallis MSA (Benton County), where the unemployment rate declined slightly to 7.6 percent from 7.8 percent in March 2009. The Bend MSA (Deschutes County) had the highest MSA rate in both March 2009 and March 2010, but it has declined from 14.1 percent to 13.3 percent over the year.
