Oregon continued its strong and continuous employment growth in May with a seasonally adjusted increase of 4,200 jobs. This follows
an April gain of 6,200. Major sectors with significant growth included leisure
and hospitality (+2,300 jobs), retail trade (+1,200), and other services
(+1,100).
In the past 12 months, Oregon’s private-sector businesses
have grown by 41,000 jobs (+3.0%) on a seasonally adjusted basis. Government has grown slowly overall and is up 0.9 percent (+2,600 jobs).
Oregon's unemployment rate was 6.9 percent in May, up
from April's revised 6.8 percent. The unemployment rate has been between 6.8
and 7.0 percent for the first five months of the year.
