Oregon's Help Wanted Online Ads Declined in October

Each month, the Oregon Employment Department tracks The Conference Board's Help Wanted Online (HWOL) series. The HWOL advertisement numbers approximate hiring demand. In October, Oregon's Help Wanted Online ad volume fell by 3,700. Ad volume declined in all western states, with the smallest decline occurring in Idaho (-1,000), and the largest drop in California (-29,100). Nationwide, the number of ads fell by 257,900.

Seasonal holiday hiring starts up in October. The number of ads for retail sales workers show that the outlook could be good for this year's holiday hiring. For more details on this, check out the Holiday Hiring Wrap-Up article from our state employment economist, Nick Beleiciks.
