Openings and Closings Around the State

This week's Around the State business announcements include several new restaurants, retail shops, and a couple of gyms. So if you're having a bad day, feel free to comfort yourself with food, shopping, or a good cardio workout:
  • Bad Vegan and West Side Deli, two fast-food restaurants, opened in Astoria. The Daily Astorian, 7/25/2013
  • Mystic Treats Pizza opened in Ashland. Ashland Daily Tidings, 7/29/2013
  • Pronto Pizza opened in Clackamas. The Oregonian, 8/4/2013
  • Pupuseria La Guanaquita, a Salvadoran restaurant, opened in Cornelius. The Oregonian, 8/2/2013
  • A Little Chic Children's Boutique opened in Grants Pass. It offers new and gently used children's clothing. Grants Pass Daily Courier, 8/4/2013
  • Sports Authority, a sporting goods store, will open in Klamath Falls in November. It will employ 15 to 20 people. Herald and News, 8/6/2013
  • StarCycle, an indoor cycling gym, opened in Lake Oswego. The Oregonian, 7/28/2013
  • Physiq Fitness will open a second Salem location. Statesman Journal, 7/31/2013
A few announcements include closures or layoffs:
  • K-Mart in Coos Bay will close in November. It employs 25 people and they will be able to apply at other K-Mart or Sears stores. KCBY, 8/5/2013
  • Sisters Mercantile, a women's clothing store in Sisters, closed. The Nugget Newspaper, 7/30/2013
  • Portland-based Blount International Inc., a chain saw manufacturer, will eliminate about 200 jobs as it consolidates two local factories. Portland Business Journal, 8/7/2013
