June Employment and Unemployment in Oregon's Counties

Benton County continued to have Oregon’s lowest seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in June at 6.0 percent. Harney County (13.0%) registered the highest rate for the month. Fourteen of Oregon’s counties had unemployment rates at or below the statewide rate of 7.9 percent. Lake and Crook counties saw the largest improvements in their unemployment rates over the year, with a drop of 1.7 percentage points to 11.5 percent and 12.6 percent, respectively.


Total nonfarm payroll employment rose in five of Oregon’s six broad regions between June 2012 and June 2013. The largest job gains were reported in Central Oregon (+1.7%). Smaller employment gains occurred over the year in Portland (+1.5%), Southern Oregon (+0.8%), along the Oregon Coast (+0.8%), and in the Willamette Valley (+0.7%).
