Business Changes Around the State

This week, our Around the State business announcements bring a little bit of everything: new businesses; those that are expanding; those with layoffs; and a few business closures.

Who's New?
  • 101 Pavers & Blocks opened in Coos Bay. It sells and installs pavers, blocks, and retaining wall components. The World, 7/5/2013 
  • Air Methods, a Colorado-based air medical transport service, will begin operation near the Union County Airport in La Grande in August. It will employ 13 people. The Observer, 6/28/2013 
  • The Coin Jam will open in downtown Salem. The "barcade" will feature beer on tap and about 80 rotating old-school video games and 14 pinball machines. Statesman Journal, 7/9/2013  
  • OHSU and Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare opened OHSU Family Medicine at Richmond, a walk-in physical and mental health care clinic, in southeast Portland. The Bee, 7/5/2013
Who's Growing?
  • The Ontario School District board adopted a 2013-2014 budget that allows for the creation of 11 positions, including a first-grade teacher, an elementary music teacher, and a high school math teacher. Argus Observer, 6/21/2013  
  • Precision Structural Engineering in Klamath Falls added four workers. Herald and News, 7/1/2013 
  • The Wild Duck Café will open a second location in Eugene. It will employ about 30 people. The Register-Guard, 6/28/2013
Who's Downsizing or Closing: 
  • Neighborhood Impact will lose federal funding for 15 positions at its Head Start program in Deschutes County. The Bulletin, 7/5/2013 
  • Klamath Behavioral Health and Wellness in Klamath Falls will lay off 81 people as the county transitions out of providing adult mental health services. A new community health program will likely hire some of the laid off workers. Herald and News, 6/26/2013  
  • SolarWorld will lay off 100 workers and suspend silicon crystal and wafer manufacturing at its Hillsboro plant. The Oregonian, 7/8/2013 
  • Mary Lou Zeek Gallery in Salem will close. Statesman Journal, 6/21/2013
