Manufacturing, Construction, and Other Business News Around the State

Several manufacturing facilities recently announced expansions, a relocation, and layoffs:
  • Two potato processors at the Port of Morrow near Boardman are expanding their plants and adding jobs. ConAgra Foods Inc. is planning a $200 million expansion at its Lamb Weston frozen potato plant, which will create 100 jobs. Calbee North America will add 33 jobs. East Oregonian, 11/10/2012 
  • Mattress manufacturer Sealy Inc. will move its Portland factory to Lacey, Wash. It employs 128 people. Portland Business Journal, 11/13/2012 
  • SolarWorld will layoff as many as 37 workers at its Hillsboro plant. The Oregonian, 11/15/2012 
And one company is starting a large construction project: 
  • Touchmark at Mt. Bachelor Village Retirement Community is adding 32 rooms to care for residents with Alzheimer's disease and 19 rooms for traditional senior care. About 30 workers will be added. The Bulletin, 11/8/2012 
There were also a couple of stories on Walmart stores:
  • A Walmart Neighborhood Market will open at the former Haggen store in Beaverton in 2014. It is expected to employ about 100 people. Beaverton Valley Times, 10/31/2012 
  • Walmart reopened its expanded store at Eastport Plaza in southeast Portland. Seventy-nine workers have been added. The Oregonian, 11/14/2012
