Major Business Openings Around the State

Here's a sampling of the latest business openings throughout Oregon, focusing on those with the largest present or future employment impact:

OREGON COAST  
  • Big Lots will open in North Bend this week. It will employ 55 people. The World, 10/17/2012  
  • Hampton Inn and Suites opened in Astoria. The 87-room hotel employs about 20 people. The Daily Astorian, 10/3/2012 
SOUTHERN OREGON
  • Radio Design Group, a maker of wireless and radio frequency equipment for commercial and industrial use, moved into its new $5-million headquarters in Rogue River. It employs 25 people. Grants Pass Daily Courier, 10/8/2012
CENTRAL OREGON / COLUMBIA GORGE
  • New Corp. in Klamath Falls, a provider of extended service plans and product protection programs, will hire 19 people. Herald and News, 10/12/2012 
  • Mt. Bachelor Memory Care, a 56-unit memory-care facility, is under construction in Bend. The Bulletin, 9/29/2012

EASTERN OREGON
  •  Techniques School of Cosmetology will open in Ontario in November. It will provide students with the coursework needed to obtain a cosmetology license in either Oregon or Idaho. Argus Observer, 9/26/2012
PORTLAND AND SURROUNDING AREAS
  • The Portland Mercado, a community-inspired Latino public market will open in southeast Portland in the summer of 2014. It is expected to create 47 jobs in the first five years. The Oregonian, 10/16/2012
  •  Wal-Mart plans to build a 154,000-square-foot store at the Mill Creek Town Center retail complex in Battle Ground. It is expected to open in 2014 and employ about 300 people. The Columbian, 10/12/2012
  • Evraz North America will restart a Portland steel mill during the first half of next year. The mill, which was idled in 2009, will make pipes for oil and natural gas and will employ 200 workers. Portland Business Journal, 10/16/2012
WILLAMETTE VALLEY
  • Construction has begun on the Fern Ridge Service Center in Veneta. It will house social assistance organizations and is expected to open in a year. The Register-Guard, 9/29/2012
