In the news: BoltBus and Streetcars

Public transit-related articles have been a topic in recent news. We have two for you, both from the Portland Business Journal.

The first article reports on the arrival of BoltBus on the West Coast. The premium bus service, a division of Greyhound Lines, will offer express service between Portland and Seattle for as low as $1 starting on May 17. The service is considered premium at least in part because BoltBuses offer leather seats, wi-fi, and power outlets.

The second story tells about an order for two streetcars. The District of Columbia has a new streetcar line slated to open in 2013, and Oregon Iron Works will be manufacturing them; the company is also currently building streetcars for Portland and Tuscon. Oregon Iron Works, a subsidiary of United Streetcar, started in the streetcar business in 2005 and has about 40 employees.
