Today the Employment Department released the
results of the latest Job Vacancy Survey, conducted in fall 2011. Employer responses indicate there were approximately 30,400 job vacancies in Oregon during the month of October. During this time there were 176,400 unemployed Oregonians, or roughly 5.8 unemployed per vacancy. Nationally there are about 4.2 unemployed per vacancy.
Major findings of the survey include:
- Nearly 60 percent of vacancies were in the Portland Tri-County area
- Most vacancies were for full-time and/or permanent positions
- Nearly 20 percent of all vacancies were in the health care and social assistance industry, more than any other industry
- Roughly 13 percent of all vacancies were in office and administrative support occupations, more than any other occupational group
- Two-thirds of vacancies did not require education beyond high school
