Medical Centers Around the State

There were several medical centers in this week's Around the State business announcements. However, all were experiencing workforce reductions or office closures:
  • Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville will close its business office, laying off 15 people. News-Register, 12/3/2011
  • In response to reduced revenues, Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise asked all departments to reduce working hours to cut labor expenses. It also reduced nursing staff and didn't fill vacant positions. Wallowa County Chieftain, 11/17/2011
  • Curry General Hospital in Gold Beach will lay off 22 employees in an effort to stem substantial losses suffered by the hospital over the past two years. Curry Coastal Pilot, 12/13/2011

There were also some bright spots in the week's business clips:

  • Con-Vey Keystone Inc., a fabricated metal company in Roseburg, rebuilt employment to its pre-recession level of 80. It diversified its products to include automated mill machinery for wood products, hydro and environmental fabrication, industrial robotic systems, and automated agricultural machinery. The News-Review, 12/4/2011

  • The Ale House by Brother Jon's will open in Bend. It will employ 20 to 30 people. The Bulletin, 12/10/2011
