Each year, Forbes puts together its "scorecard on what states have the best business climates". Forbes bases the "Best States for Business" rankings on several factors, including: business costs, labor supply, regulatory environment, economic climate, growth prospects, and quality of life. Thirty-seven different points of data are used to determine the rankings in these categories.
This year, Oregon ranks ninth best for business among the states. Among the various categories, Oregon ranked best in growth prospects (8th), and earned its lowest ranking (38th) in the regulatory environment category.
Oregon was also considered among the best in 2010, taking sixth place in the Forbes rankings. Earlier this year, Forbes also published its list of the best cities for business and careers; Portland made the top 25 list with a 15th-place ranking.
