Business Openings, Closures, and Hires Around the State

There are many businesses openings in this week's Around the State, but unfortunately, some of these are matched by similar business closures.

First, we have seafood restaurants:
  • Bourbon Street Sea & Soul Food in Bend closed. The Bulletin, 10/5/2011

  • Wheelhouse Seafood, a seafood market, opened in Seaside. The Daily Astorian, 9/29/2011
And banks:
  • Community Bank will close its branch in Union in December. It employs four people. It will also close its Southgate branch in Pendleton. Affected employees will be retained by consolidating operations into other existing facilities in La Grande and Pendleton. The Observer, 9/16/2011
  • Riverview Community Bank will open a branch in Gresham. The Outlook, 10/5/2011
But we also have a lot of good news -- companies that are planning to hire!
  • Energ2, a Seattle-based technology firm, plans to hire 35 people for its manufacturing facility in Albany. The plant will produce electrode material that will enhance power storage for electric vehicles. Albany Democrat-Herald, 10/4/2011

  • Business is booming so much at the Sunshine Mill winery in The Dalles that the city's urban renewal agency agreed to scrap plans to demolish the mill's nearby warehouse. Instead, the earmarked funds will now be used to turn it into 20,000 square feet of usable storage space. Twenty jobs could be added. The Dalles Chronicle, 9/28/2011

  • The Walmart store in Roseburg will be expanded and remodeled into a supercenter. It will add 85 workers to its current workforce of 160. The News-Review, 10/2/2011
