Sports and Art Around the State

This week's edition of Around the State features business news for all the athletes and artists out there.

A couple of sporting goods stores are slated to open soon:

• Altrec, an online outdoor gear retailer based in Redmond, plans to open a retail store in Bend called Great Outdoors by altrec.com. The Bulletin, 7/21/2011

• Construction is under way on a retail center in Ontario that could house up to eight businesses. Big 5 Sporting Goods and Petsense, a pet product store, have applied for permits to build at the site. The Argus Observer, 7/7/2011

And if you enjoy art, you'll be happy to hear that several galleries recently opened:

• Majin Studio and Art Shop opened in Grants Pass. It features the owner's work and displays works for sale by three other local artists. Grants Pass Daily Courier, 7/16/2011

• Carine's Studio, a jewelry studio and gallery, opened in Astoria. Coast River Business Journal, 7/18/2011

• Brian Gailey Photography and Design opened in Klamath Falls. Herald and News, 7/17/2011
