The Oregon Employment Department released the January 2011 unemployment rates for counties and metropolitan areas this morning. Seasonally adjusted unemployment rates were above 10.0 percent in 23 of the state's 36 counties. Benton County had the lowest jobless rate for the month (6.9%), and Crook County had the highest rate (17.6%).
The largest unemployment rate increase over the previous year occurred in Wheeler County. The county's 11.7 percent rate was 2.2 percentage points above its January 2010 rate. Morrow County experienced the largest decline (-0.9 percentage point) over the year.
