Oregon unemployment rate at 10.7 in January

Oregon's unemployment rate was 10.7 percent in January, which is essentially the same as the month prior (10.6 percent). A year ago the unemployment rate was 9.9 percent.

Total employment in January increased 1,100. This was the first monthly job gain since February 2008, when 900 jobs were added.

By Industry:
Most of Oregon's major industries performed in line with their typical seasonal patterns in January. Two major industries posted substantial seasonally adjusted job gains: trade, transportation, and utilities (+1,300) and professional and business services (+1,400). Construction (-1,600 jobs) was the only major industry to post a substantial seasonally adjusted job loss.
