Our good friends at the Bureau of Labor Statistics just released the national employment data for December. Their numbers indicate that employment edged down (-85,000) in December, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 10.0 percent. Employment fell in construction, manufacturing, and wholesale trade, while temporary help services and health care added jobs.
The amount of job loss is smaller than what we've seen most of the year, and much better than a year ago. At 10.0 percent, the unemployment rate has been stable the last few months.
If you want more details, including information about what happened in each major industry, check out their press release. It even has colorful graphs!
