Oregon's Unemployment Rate in July

Oregon's unemployment rate* was 11.9 percent in July, which is about the same as the June rate of 12.0 percent. The rate has hovered around 12 percent for the past five months. In July 2008 the rate was 6.3 percent.

Employment fell by 700 jobs in July, following a drop of 3,400 in June (revised). While this is the 12th consecutive month of job losses, the pace has slowed. This is illustrated in the graph below:

The largest losses over the month were in construction, financial activities, leisure and hospitality, and manufacturing. Losses were also seen in government. Some sectors of the economy posted gains. You can get the details from this month's press release!
