Business Openings, Closings, and More

From openings and expansions to closures and layoffs, a mixture of business activity in a variety of industries is occurring around the state.

A few of the latest openings and expansions include:

• Thunder Island Brewing Co. will open in Cascade Locks. Hood River News, 10/15/2013
• Tap and Growler opened in Eugene. It offers 40 beers and 20 wines. The Register-Guard, 10/3/2013
• Buddha Kat Winery will open in Seaside. The Daily Astorian, 10/3/2013 
• Aspen Grove Wellness Center opened in Beaverton. It offers alternative and traditional wellness services including acupuncture, chiropractic, hypnotherapy, massage, and naturopathic medicine. The Oregonian, 10/10/2013
• Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts will open a store in Hazel Dell. It will employ about five full-time management staff and 20 part-time workers. The Columbian, 10/7/2013
• Siskiyou Community Health Center in Cave Junction began a $3.5 million-expansion project that is expected to be completed within a year. Grants Pass Daily Courier, 10/9/2013

Some of the closures and layoffs include:

• American Bridge in Reedsport will close. It employs 51 people. The World, 10/15/2013
• Creative Crafts and Frameshop in Corvallis will close in December. It employs 28 people. Corvallis Gazette-Times, 10/14/2013
• Local Choice Produce Market in Portland's Pearl District will close. The Oregonian, 10/1/2013
• ATI Wah Chang in Millersburg laid off several workers. Corvallis Gazette-Times, 10/8/2013
• Portland Development Commission will lay off 15 employees in a second round of cuts that began in April. Daily Journal of Commerce, 10/10/2013
