Openings, Closings, and Layoffs Around the State

With summer coming to an end, a few of the business announcements in this week's Around the State might remind us of our summer vacation or could be places to drop off our pets before we take our next vacation:
  • Swing Tree Brewing Co., a taphouse and brewery, will open in Ashland in October. Ashland Daily Tidings, 8/20/2013
  • Flyfishing Strategies Fly Shop will open in The Dalles. The Dalles Chronicle, 8/22/2013
  • Barefoot at The Belfry, a nail salon, opened in Sisters. The Nugget Newspaper, 8/27/2013
  • Lakeside Bistro opened in Tualatin. The Oregonian, 8/18/2013
  • The Lucky Dog Lodge boarding and care facility opened near Merlin. Grants Pass Daily Courier, 8/25/2013
  • The Cat's Meow Luxury Boarding will open in northeast Vancouver. The Columbian, 8/26/2013
Unfortunately, this week's announcements also include news of layoffs and closures:
  • Vancouver-based hospital system PeaceHealth will cut 500 jobs as a service contract with Kaiser Permanente comes to an end. Most of the layoffs will be in southwest Washington, but the company also has hospitals in Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove, and Florence. The Oregonian, 8/27/2013
  • C & K Market in Walterville will close, leaving the McKenzie River community without a grocery store. The Register-Guard, 8/28/2013
  • Wow! Fitness Club in Corvallis will close. Corvallis Gazette-Times, 8/21/2013
